MASTER OF HIS OWN...
There are players who don't like to move often and keep loyalty to one team.
There are those who like changes and can't settle down. Kardash probably
belongs to the latter. In his 25 he already changed 4 clubs of a high level.
And every next team is higher in class. He reached the Ukrainian Cup final with
Karpaty Lviv, played for Israel champion Makkabi Haifa, played for the
Ukrainian vice-champion Chornomorets Odesa and finally he joined Dynamo Kyiv.
-- Why did you go to Israel in 20 years?
-- Makkabi is a decent club, played in European Cups. I wanted to "shine" in
Europe. And Israel is a nice country. I don't regret it, even just because I
saw Jerusalem...
-- Leonid Buriak, who was coaching Chronomorets at that time, said once
that there are different positions: defender, midfielder, forward and...
Kardash.
-- Buriak made me master of my own, a "free-lancer". Although I had to work in
defense and offense too.
-- Chornomorets was a strong competitor of DK in mid 90s. What happened to
the team?
-- First of all, the club started selling its leading players. Second, one
man can't do much financially for the club. The city should have helped too.
-- So it looks like you left Chornomorets in time for DK?
-- That was their 3rd offer by then. First was when I played for Skala Stryi,
then when I was in Karpaty, but I thought that I was too "raw" for Kyiv and
declined it.
-- I heard that Lobanovsky is a difficult person. Closed character,
hard to have conversation with. Is this true?
-- I don't know where people take this. It's not true. He always has time and
place to say right words. He is a great Psychologist. He knows when to praise,
he knows when to support, he knows when to shout at...
-- Does he have favorites?
-- I wouldn't say so. All are equal to him.
-- What are the relations among players in such a stern competition?
-- Normal. We all understand that only the strongest gets the place in the
main squad.
-- Last season was horrible for you.
-- True. In 1997 I broke my leg in the game vs Vorskla. And then I injured it
twice in the same place again. First I got it plastered, and later it was
operated. Now I have a bolt in it. In 6-10 months it should be removed.
-- Do you feel it when you play?
-- At first, right after operation, I was afraid to load the leg. But now
it comes to my mind very rare that I have a bolt in my leg. And I don't think
about it at all during the game.
-- Vasyl, sometimes it seems to me that 2 different teams play in Ukrainian
Championship and in the Champions League... do players have problems to
concentrate?
-- The difference between Champions League and Ukrainian Premier League is
only in the atmosphere around the game. And I don't understand those people
who say that we have boring League and there are no strong teams except for DK.
-- What is Champions League for you?
-- First of all it is a great school and experience. The aura around a game,
the game itself... Impossible to describe. Every player dreams about it.
