| Arcade Emulators | |
|
Classic arcade games come to Macintosh! Thanks to the power of emulation, the same games we dropped quarters on ten years ago can be played once again. (Note: most of the emulators on this page can be replaced by one program, MacMAME, an arcade multi-emulator which supports thousands of games in one emulator.)
M1, version 0.7.0.
M1 lets you enjoy music from 700 arcade games, from the classics through the 3D era. It even supports many games for which full emulation isn't otherwise possible. For many games, you can also listen to all the sound effects, but 100% coverage is not guaranteed of all sounds in all games.

Modeler, version 0.9.3a.
the Blitter Library plugin, which provides additional video modes for use with Modeler.
Modeler is a Sega Arcade emulator which supports Sega System 32 and Sega Model 1 games - neither of which can be emulated by any other program at the time of writing. While the Model 1 games are not playable, due to the lack of 3D graphics emulation, the System 32 games work well. Arcade games supported by this emulator include Spiderman, Golden Axe 2, Hard Dunk, Outrunners, Rad Mobile, and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Vectorama, version 1.0.2.
the ROM images used by Vectorama.
This is a phenomenal emulator. It emulates almost all of the Atari vector games: Asteroids (Classic and Deluxe), Lunar Lander, Battlezone, Red Baron, Black Widow, Gravitar, Space Duel and Tempest. It's fast and supports sound.
the Atari Vector Simulator, version 2.1.
This is a well-designed Asteroids/Lunar Lander vector game emulator, missing only sound (and a full interface). The graphics and control are dead-on.

FrogCow 1.0.
This emulator is an accurate replica of the Frogger hardware on the Mac OS. It's got a slick interface and seems to work well on any PowerPC-based Mac.

MacMoon 0.8.6.
MacMoon is a very versatile emulator! The current version supports Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man, Galaxian, Crush Roller, War of the Bugs, Pisces, Super Galaxian, The End, Moon Cresta, Pengo, Ladybug, Naughty Boy, Mr. Do, WarpWarp, Scramble, Uniwars, and Hanglyman (a Pacman clone).

the Space Invaders T3 Emulator 2.0.1.
This is a well-designed Space Invaders emulator. The graphics and sound are perfect, and the enemy intelligence is... well, as good as the arcade, at least. This version is, fortunately, in English.
the Rygar emulator REM-Mac 1.0. (You may need to hold option while clicking the link.)
This is an emulator for the Rygar arcade unit. It can play the game from beginning to end at a good speed, with full sound support.

the MacMultiPac 8.1 emulator.
the source code to the MacMultiPac 8.1 emulator.
MultiPac was a Pac Man system emulator, and a precursor to today's MacMAME. MultiPac was trivial in comparison--it supported several different variants of Pac-Man.

Williams Arcade Emulators
Emulators for the popular arcade games Robotron, Defender, and Joust were sold for the Macintosh several years ago. They cost approximately $20 when first released, but they haven't been available for sale in several years. At this point, it's simpler just to use MacMAME to emulate them.
An interesting twist: some resourceful programmers managed to insert the ROMs for Stargate into the Robotron emulator.

MacSloMo 0.67.
MacSloMo is an emulator for Centipede, Millipede, and Astro Fighter which is written in BASIC, making it much slower than most other emulators.

CentiMu 1.0d6.
CentiMu is another Centipede emulator written in BASIC. Other than novelty factor, it's not very interesting.
